SAN DIEGO – The body of a man was discovered in the water Wednesday at the San Diego Bay.
Just before 5:30 p.m., the Port of San Diego and Harbor Police received a call about a body floating off the dock at the Laurel Street Anchorage in the area of West Laurel Street and North Harbor Drive. Vessel units responded to the area and located the body, which was recovered by the department’s dive team, Harbor Police Sergeant T.D. De La Pena said.
The victim is described as a middle-aged, white man with no obvious signs of trauma.
His body was loaded up onto a gurney at the end of the dock and now is in the possession of the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office, which will conduct an investigation into the victim’s cause of death, De La Pena said.
“If there were any IDs or possessions on the body, they will examine those and try to locate a next of kin,” he said.
It is not yet known how long the victim’s body was in the water, but De La Pena said because of Wednesday’s sunny weather and good conditions, “I’m fairly certain the body was spotted fairly quickly.”
Also unknown is if the victim is connected to any missing persons cases in the county.
