BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh men’s lacrosse graduate student Teddy Leggett became the fourth player in program history (all in recent years) selected in the National Lacrosse League Draft, as he was picked by the San Diego Seals in the sixth round (81st overall) on Saturday night. The long stick midfielder/defenseman has excelled in the field game for the Mountain Hawks, while he also has plenty of box experience growing up in Canada where the indoor game is extremely popular.
Before Leggett, Tristan Rai was selected by the New England Black Wolves in the fifth round in 2019, Nolan Apers was picked by the Georgia Swarm in the fifth round in 2018 and Dan Taylor became the first player in program history selected in the draft when he went in the second round (12th overall) by the Saskatchewan Rush in 2015. Taylor won an NLL Championship with the Rush in 2016.
Leggett was the only Patriot League player selected on Saturday night.
Among Leggett’s indoor lacrosse experience, he was a member of the Six Nations Arrows of the Ontario Lacrosse Association (OLA) Junior “A” Lacrosse League, who competed as the top seed in the 2017 Minto Cup, which is the Canadian Junior “A” lacrosse national championship.
Leggett has returned to Lehigh for a fifth year in 2021-22; he’s enrolled in the Healthcare Systems Engineering Master’s program after earning his undergraduate degree in Bioengineering. A finalist for the prestigious Senior CLASS Award (who was also named a first team Senior CLASS All-American), Leggett has impressed in all areas of his student-athlete experience. Already a two-time captain, he’s been named second team All-Patriot League all three years the awards were given (they weren’t awarded following the pandemic-shortened 2020 season). As a senior in 2021, Leggett led the Mountain Hawks in caused turnovers (15) and finished second in groundballs (43). With 209 career groundballs, he stands sixth in program history in that category.
