Padres Strand 11, But End Slump in 9-4 Win Over Cubs – NBC 7 San Diego

Manny Machado and Brian O’Grady each hit home runs, beating San Diego Padres 9-4 to the Chicago Cubs with three RBIs.

Machado hit a solo home run and two sacrifice flies. O’Grady hit a two-run home run and one RBI.

Ryan Weathers (3 wins, 2 losses) threw 5 innings, 3 hits, 5 hits and 4 strikeouts.

Chicago starter Adbert Alzolay (4-5) walked through lead-off batter Tommy Pham, who reached the base four times, and then left the blisters on his right middle finger in the fourth inning. Athletic trainer and manager David Ross briefly talked to Alzolay before he headed for Dougout. He threw 82 hits in 3 innings, 4 hits, 5 hits and 5 hits.

Padres took a single run in the first and second Alzolay matches, but Alzolay jammed in both innings. The Padres ran only once on Eric Hosmer’s ground out because the bases loaded and no first out. The second time there was a one-death runner in the second and third times, scoring with Machad’s sacrifice fly.

However, in the third inning, Alzolay gave San Diego a 4-0 lead with a straight shot to the center with Ogradi’s 407-foot home run.

The Weathers had cushions, but there was a problem the fourth time. Two singles and one walk loaded onto the base without outs. Jake Marisnick then hit the slow roller and hugged the first base line in the middle of the bag. Weathers fired a false throw, which hit Marisnick and bounced. Two points were scored and the two batters then hit a sacrifice fly to cut 4-3.

San Diego added two RBIs in Fam’s RBI grounder in the sixth inning, sliding Victor Calantini on the plate and scoring Machado’s second sacrifice fly.

In the Cubs, Ian Happ hit a solo home run in the 7th inning, pulling the center 6-4.

San Diego recorded three out of eight insurance runs. Machado hit a solo home run after first baseman Anthony Rizzo dropped a foul pop-up with an error. Later in the inning, Hosmer released a single with Jake Cronenworth and scored with O’Grady’s double.
