Some 695 properties with unpaid taxes on them will be up for sale in an online property auction March 12-17 by the San Diego County Treasurer-Tax Collector.

The property includes 53 residential or commercial properties, 558 timeshares, and 84 parcels of land, said Treasurer-Tax Collector Dan McAllister.

To participate, bidders must register before March 4 at the Treasurer-Tax Collector’s tax auction website, sdttc.mytaxsale.com. They must also submit a refundable $1,000 deposit and a nonrefundable $35 processing fee.

Some of the property may require a larger deposit.

“These properties have been in tax default for five or more years, so it’s time we get them into the hands of new owners and back on the tax roll,” McAllister said

If sold for the minimum bid, he estimated that the county would earn $15.5 million.

“Prospective bidders should sign up for e-notifications for our property tax auction at sdttc.com to receive email reminders before important deadlines,” McAllister said.

Owners of the properties have until 5 p.m. March 11 to pay taxes and fees to remove the properties from the auction.
