A performance by pipa virtuoso Wu Man does not only transcend musical genres, but also takes you on a journey through the centuries. The pipa, a Chinese lute-like instrument, has a history of over 2,000 years, and Wu Man’s performance features music that ranges from traditional folk song, to 19th century pipa music, to contemporary pieces including her own composition, showcasing the instrument’s unique tonal qualities, and displaying her formidable playing skills. This event made possible by the Funes Fund for Arts and Events. Dr. Don Funes was a founding professor of the Visual and Performing Arts Program at CSUSM. Don’s wish was that all students would have opportunities to experience the arts. CSUSM Students: free. Community: Optional Donation. Faculty/Staff/Alumni: Optional Donation. All donations will go back into the Arts & Lectures fund to provide for future events.
